The Department of Statistics and Operations Research was established in 1989 in response to the growing needs of Kuwait for scientifically trained statisticians and operations research experts. The department offers two undergraduate degrees: Applied Statistics, and Statistics and Operations Research as well as a graduate program in Statistics and Operations Research. These programs provide adequate training to the students and prepare them to undertake key positions within the growing economy of Kuwait. Our graduates are highly solicited in industry, service companies, and government as consultants, strategic analysts, and decision makers.

Currently, the department has 22 faculty members, all graduates of reputed universities in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and USA. The faculty members strive to maintain a competitive research environment resulting in scientific publications and consulting contracts with industry. Their areas of research span a wide range of subjects varying from purely theoretical to applied fields. Department of Statistics & Operations Research,
